How to Fall Asleep Faster

How to Fall Asleep Faster

Did you know that getting enough sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your health?

And we're not just talking about your physical health. We're talking about your mental health, too.

Sleep deprivation can lead to a host of problems: it can make you more susceptible to stress, lower your immune system, slow brain functioning, and increase your risk of depression or anxiety.

It can even cause you to gain weight.

Do you struggle to get good quality sleep?

If so, this list is for you! These 10 sleep tips will help you get a better night of sleep than ever before:

  1. Get in bed at the same time every night: This helps reset your body's internal clock and makes it easier to fall asleep when it's time for bed. Plus, your body will get used to the routine and make it easier for you to fall asleep when it's time to go to bed.

  2. Make sure your bedroom is cool: When your body temperature drops, it signals to your brain that it's time to relax and go to sleep. So try to keep your bedroom temperature between 65º and 70º Fahrenheit at night.

  3. Make sure your bedroom is dark: Darkness helps regulate melatonin levels in our bodies, which makes us feel sleepy. The more comfortable you are in bed, the more likely you'll be able to fall asleep quickly and stay asleep through the night. If your room isn't dark enough for you then consider using blackout curtains or an eye mask.

  4. Meditate: Meditating or breathing exercises before bed can help calm your mind and relax tense muscles so they won't keep you from falling asleep.

  5. Stop using your phone or tablet in bed: Or at least put them on night mode before going to sleep! The light from these devices can interfere with your body's natural circadian rhythm, which will make it more difficult for you to fall asleep quickly and stay asleep throughout the night.

  6. Avoid eating before bed: Eating late at night forces your muscles that digest and metabolize food to continue working when they should be resting–a recipe for poor sleep. Plus, eating too close to bedtime can cause heartburn, which can keep you awake for hours.

  7. Skip naps later in the day: Naps are great for recharging, but they can also make it harder to fall asleep at night. Your body gets used to a certain amount of sleep and then adjusts when the nap ends.

  8. Limit Caffeine: Try to stop drinking caffeine 6 or more hours before bed. Caffeine keeps you awake by increasing neurotransmitter release in your brain and blocking adenosine receptors (a chemical messenger that makes you feel sleepy).

  9. Limit Alcohol: When you drink alcohol at night, your body produces less melatonin because alcohol interferes with its production. This means that you won't get as much restful sleep because your body isn't producing enough melatonin to help regulate your circadian rhythm.

  10. Take a hot bath: A nice warm bath will help relax your muscles by releasing tension in them and raising your core temperature slightly—but not enough in the long term to disrupt your sleep cycle!
